WalkerMN.com, November 16, 2012 – Karvakko Engineering of Bemidji recently hired Shawn Klein as a design technician. Klein received his degree in technical design with an emphasis in mechanical, civil and architectural design, from Olympic College, Bremerton, Wash. With nearly 10 years of experience on engineering and architectural projects, Klein brings with him a multi-disciplinary skill set. Read more
Kitsap Peninsula Business Journal, November 12, 2012 – The nationally accredited Olympic College Culinary Arts Program is interviewing students interested in a career in culinary arts and hospitality management for the upcoming winter quarter. Bremerton Patriot, November 6, 2012 – The Olympic College Jazz Classic will be taking place on Saturday, November 17. Jazz ensembles from the region’s middle and high schools will perform at various venues around the Bremerton campus where they will be evaluated by experienced instructors and musicians. Read more

Kitsap Sun, September 24, 2012 - Olympic College’s nursing assistant program resumes Monday after being one of several programs the college stopped offering to students in response to slashed state funding last year.
Olympic College recently received a grant from Washington STEM, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to improving education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Historically, Washington STEM grants have focused on K-12 students. For the first time ever, the Olympic College grant will extend benefits to community college students, encouraging them to transfer into STEM fields at a university level. Olympic College is the first community college to receive the grant’s Portfolio Award, which is a multi-year project that develops or expands STEM education innovations.

Olympic College was recently notified by students and employees that their credit card and debit card numbers were fraudulently used. In each reported case, the individuals stated their card was in their possession. The occurrences were not isolated to any one area. The college is investigating the reports and, out of caution, urging anyone that has used their credit card or debit card at Olympic College to review their statements and check with their financial institution.
The college is still determining the timing of the incidents and if credit card or debit card systems may have been compromised. The college is hiring a forensic investigator to check for a possible “hacker” break-in of its financial transaction systems. In light of the reports, the college has restricted or removed its transactions systems from the merchant internet network and will offer manual credit card and debit card machines temporarily as a precaution.
