The college recently received a Partner in Education award from the Kitsap County Solid Waste Division. The award recognized the college’s participation in RecycleMania, a national recycling competition involving colleges and universities across the country. Olympic College students organized the event and asked students and employees to take part. In 2010, the college placed 18th out of 140 entries for the amount of garbage reduced per student, beating out much larger colleges and universities including Boston University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard University. Olympic College students are participating again in RecycleMania this year to reduce the amount of garbage generated and increase the amount of recycling.
