Olympic College’s Culinary Arts Institute Advising New Students for Fall Quarter 2011 – Introduces Baking Arts Program

BREMERTON, Wash. – An innovative program that prepares students for entry-level jobs in the creative field of culinary arts will be offered at Olympic College during Fall Quarter 2011. OC’s Culinary Arts Institute is introducing the Baking Arts program. Baking Arts teaches bakery skills and managing bakery operations. Students will learn the following through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience:

  • Creams, custards, puddings, and related sauces
  • Yeast risen breads and rolled dough
  • Basic cake production and decorating
  • Proper use and handling of various kinds of chocolates.

This 15-credit program follows the American Culinary Federation’s (ACF) “Baking and Pastry” competencies.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS ENROLL NOW FOR FALL QUARTER
OC’s Culinary Arts Institute is interviewing students for Fall Quarter 2011. Fall Quarter begins Monday, Sept. 19, 2011.

Some students may be eligible for financial aid, scholarships, and Worker Retraining assistance. Call OC’s Financial Aid office at 360-475-7160 for more details.

ABOUT THE CULINARY ARTS INSTUTUTE
OC’s Culinary Arts Institute is nationally accredited by the American Culinary Federation (ACF), and affiliated with the Washington State Chefs Association.

The Culinary Arts Institute provides in-depth culinary training designed to build careers in the hospitality industry, restaurants, hotels, caterers, fine bakeries, resorts, and institutions offering food service.

Students focus on areas of cooking specialty and gain valuable hands-on experience. Some of the courses offered at the Culinary Arts Institute include Baking for Restaurants and Institutions, Catering and Banquets, International Cuisine, Fine Dining, and ServSafe. Students gain hands-on experience by providing food service at OC’s OlympiCafe and Fireside Bistro located at the college’s Bremerton campus, and at various catered events.
